Like Hosea, Motes “receives his redemption and purification in a way which seems unorthodox: he frequents the bed of a well-known prostitute” (Friedman 241). In both cases, this act “establishes the tone of unconventional prophecy” as both Motes and Hosea have sexual relationships with prostitutes which will become meaningful in their respective ministries (Friedman 241).
