Today old and new ideas multiply and diversify themselves. Especially since the astonishing public success of French philosophy from the 1960s and ’70s, waves of intellectual fashions have rolled over the cultural world and artistic production, including over every “advanced” art school in the 1980s and afterward.

Everything just aligns for a few moments. MCM: And if you’re one of the kids who’s in that group, you get an advantage that just as good a student doesn’t have three years earlier or three years later. And it’s the breaks. There are these strange moments when things can happen. And you don’t know about it until after the fact. An art school will have an incredible reputation for things that happened about five years ago, but you didn’t know it back then. Then you look back and say, “Wow, those were the golden years,” as you said.
